Brand, Kennedy Assist Panthers' 6-0 Win Over PC

     Chase Brand and Connor Kennedy had four assists each as the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team peppered 53 shots on goal to open Mid-State Conference play with a 6-0 win over Prairie Centre Tuesday night at Long Prairie.

     Kennedy opened the scoring on an assist by Brand at the 6:19 mark of the first period before Kennedy and Brand set up Kiefer Miller for a power-play goal at the 15:25 mark for a 2-0 lead. Park Rapids held a 15-5 advantage in shots in that period.

     Brand and Kennedy set up Matt DeLaHunt at the 12:51 mark of the second period before Kennedy assisted on a goal by Brand at the 16:14 mark as the Panthers led 4-0. Park Rapids held a 19-4 edge in shots in that period.

     The Panthers dominated the third period by outshooting Prairie Centre 19-2. Brand and Kennedy assisted on a power-play goal by Miller at the 8:47 mark before Craig Walters scored at the 12:31 mark to conclude the scoring.         Goalie Ben Naugle made 11 saves for the shutout as the Panthers evened their record at 1-1. Park Rapids went 3 for 7 on the power play.

     Prairie Centre fell to 0-3 on the season despite 47 saves by goalie Mitch Bauer.

GOALIE SAVES: Park Rapids (Naugle) 5-4-2-11. Prairie Centre (Bauer) 13-17-17-47.
